Lam Dong School for the Hearing Impaired
This is an overly crowded boarding school for low-income hearing impaired Vietnamese children. To prepare the children to assimilate with everyday life the school provides education in sign language and also provides vocational training for students including baking, sewing, embroidery. Their products are sold at the school tea shop named "Lặng" which means silence.
These children could not express themselves through speech, yet they warmly welcomed us with signs and smiles. They guided us upstairs to the principal's office. Our short visit and donation were bringing happiness to the children and staff. The vice principal shared that during difficult times when they did not have enough food to feed the students, they relied on help from Luc Hoa Orphanage for rice and vegetables.
